EMMIGRATION/IMIGRATION:  There are two theories behind his imigration to the United States.  "The first is that he immigrated to Dartmouth, MA, in 1639 and later to Rhode Island. The secon dsi that he imigrated directly to Rhode Island before 1653.  In either case Richard was admitted as a freeman in Dartmouth 17 May 1653 (age 45) aind in Portsmouth, RI, in 1655. Whether he arrived from Massachusetts or England is not stated in the record. To the best of our knowledge, no records exist indicating Richard's presence in new England prior to 1651.  This seems unusual in view of the many records that exist after 1653.  If on the other hand, the family imigrated in 1653, his marriage and the birth of his first three children would have occurred in England." - Sisson family history book, p. 2 (see this person's birth record for full reference.
